New Blog

Hey all.

I decided that I am starting a new blog, apart from my Air Force experience. You can see it at http://peterbarrett.blogspot.com.

The whole explanation is in the first post.

Possibly more Air Force stuff coming soon, too!

Holy Smokes!

So, it's been way too long since I've been here. So, I may as well update everyone on the happenings of me.

I am now in Omaha, NE stationed at Offutt AFB. I, as of five hours from now, will be a First Lieutenant and will be enjoying the pay raise involved in that as well.

I am now on the search for my own home. I hope to be purchasing and moved in by Thanksgiving time. But we'll see. I still have to get some finances in order. But I do hope to get it done soon.

Not much else new in other news. Life is going as usual. I will try and get more going soon. Possibly even some more poignant blogging going on.

Later!

Wings

Well, it finally happened. Last Friday, I graduated from my training. I now have my wings and will be leaving San Antonio soon enough. It was nice to have my parents down for the graduation and especially nice to have Mary Sue come and surprise me.

Unfortunately, now it's just a waiting game where I just go in once a day and see what work they have for me to do in the squadron. But once I finish my survival schools, then it's off to Offutt AFB! I really cannot wait to get to work.

Happy New Year!

All right, so I'm a little late extending new years wishes, but I've been busy. As of today, I am "done" with my training. Now, I don't offically graduate until February, but there are no more graded events from here on out. It's pretty exciting to be this close to finished and out of Texas.

As you may know, now, I am offically moving to Omaha to be an EWO on the RC135. I'll probably get there sometime in April or May. At that time, I'll probably just look for an apartment for six months and start looking for a house. I'll be in Omaha for five to six years, so I think it will be a decent investment. We'll see once I get there.

Other than that, things are as they always are, just fine!

Long needed update

Ok, everyone. It has been a little too long since my last post, so I thought I would give you the quick catch up.

I am now part of the 563rd Flying Training Squadron. This is the squadron that trains electronic warfare officers, which is what I will be when I graduate in February. This also means that I will most likely be stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE on the RC-135. This is what I've always thought I would end up on, and now it's turning out to be true.

Apart from that, I can't say much about training that wouldn't be either too confusing or against the rules when it comes to classified information.

Apart from that, things are going well and I am just great!

Systems Navigation

Well, I just finished my check ride for my Systems Navigation course and it went well. I've been doing very well also, during this past phase of training. I've been regularly told that I'm well above average and above the curve for my class. I guess you could say that I'm pretty satisfied with that!

Not much else to report. Our next phase of training is generally considered the most difficult. So, I guess I'll finally have to buckle down or something.

Hopefully the holidays come fast now. I'd really like to get home and see some people. I know the next time I'm home should be Thanksgiving and then Christmas.

I hope all is well with everyone. Talk soon!

Fundamentals of Navigation

Well, I have now officially passed my check ride for my Fundamentals of Navigation portion of my nav training. Our next portion is called Systems Navigation where we primarily learn how to navigate by radar. So, we'll be back in the classroom for about a week, then we go back to flying and simming. It is going very well for me. On my last three events, I've been graded as "excellent" which is as high as the grading goes. Now, it will go back down to "goods" most likely until I get the hang of all the new equipment that we will be learning to use. It's all really exciting.

In other news, well, there is no other news. My dad is coming down to visit in about a week and I hope I can get my brother down here sometime soon. I really want to get to Chicago, though, and check out the new house that Kate and Jim bought. Also, I want to visit my nieces as well.

Drop a line sometime! I'd love to hear from any of you who read this!
