Last Moments of Freedom

Ok, so right now is not really my "last" moments of freedom, but it makes for a good title.

So, a ton of new OTs came in this afternoon and we all walked over to the Outback Steakhouse for a final dinner. Well, that is to say it was our final "quality" dinner. And everyone seems quite nice. In total, I believe that there are about 22 of us here in the hotel right now all getting ready for the big day tomorrow in our own special ways.

As some little "words of wisdom" for those who may be wondering about the direction of their life: I get down here and meet these people for the first time and something seems different. There are so many people that seem somehow familiar to me, eventhough I have NEVER met them before today. This reassures me that I am doing the right thing here. The same thing happened in college and I knew I was in the right place there as well. Just the basic familiararity and comradery that comes with this group of people who are going through the same things as I am just makes me feel more comfortable and sure about my decision to do this.

So, once again, it may be a while before more posting happens. I guess we shall find out soon.

Montgomery, AL

Well, last night was my first night in Alabama. When I got here, a few other trainees had already arrived. So, the seven of us who were here all went out for dinner last night and had a great time. Aparently, the non-prior service trainees are going to be a little out numbered by the prior service men and women. At least, that is what it looks like from here.

Today, we are probably just going to hang out and get to know each other a little more. So far, Mom, no one seems like an asshole at all. They are all real nice people. So, your hopes have been met ;).

Just as a reminder, I do not know how often this will be able to be updated. And the same goes for me checking my email. Just know, that if I do not respond right away, that does not mean I don't care. I am just too busy studying or doing push-ups or something.

Well, that is all for now. Expect the last blog for a week tomorrow!

Marion, IL

I am currenty in a Super 8 in Marion, IL. I just got here about 20 mins ago and am pretty tired from driving almost 11 hours straight today. Tomorrow, I will be arriving in Montgomery around 6 PM local time and will check into my hotel for that night. Hopefully I will begin to meet some of the other people that are going to be joining me at OTS.

I think that is all for tonight. Now I have to go and find something to eat!

It Starts Today

So, Today it starts! I was officially sworn into Active Duty this morning at the Minneapolis MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station). So, now I hold the rank of an Air Force Staff Sergeant (SSgt E-5) and my pay and paid benefits start today. This is the last thing that needed to happen before I go off to Basic Officer Training. I will be leaving early on Saturday morning and will update my trip on the road, probably from Bloomington, IL or Nashville, TN.

In the mean time, I will be going to coach our softball game this afternoon, going to practice tomorrow, going to my sister's senior play on Friday, and then, off to the wild blue yonder. My life here is now ending and I begin a whole new chapter of my life where not even the title has been read nor even written.

Please pray for me and wish me luck.

20 Days

So, there is about 20 Days left until I leave for training. It is getting exciting. Not much there, just a little quick update.

First Blog

I don't really know how many blogs I have actually tried to start, but this one should stick. I am going to try and update, as much as possible, this blog with my adventures, primarily of those in the USAF. Please feel free to comment, leave a message, or pass on this blog address to other people who may be interested in knowing what I am up to, or things such as that.

As it is, I am not yet down at Basic Officer's Training, but I am putting myself through my own little pre-training training. I do need to work on those stupid push-ups, however. Man, are they difficult.

Anyway, this one will work for a first posting. Hope to see you back here soon!
